Apart from Central library of the institute, the Department of Civil Engineering also has a library of its own. This contains books that are commonly required by the students, including reference books. Bulletins, journal of various professional institutions like Institution of Engineers ( India ), Proceedings of Conferences/Seminars/Workshops, technical literature from the various construction companies pertaining to their products or projects executed by them etc. are also available in the library for students’ reference. The library has also a very good collection of Video Cassettes and VCDs pertaining to Civil Engineering Construction and allied fields from India and abroad.

Civil engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.The job of a Civil Engineer extends over a wide spectrum of activities involving planning, designing, construction and maintenance of various Civil Engineering works. A Civil Engineer is also responsible for management of various resources, personnel, administration, finance and construction. List of Software installed: All Microsoft License Software ( Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance). e.g. Net, Share point, Office, MSSQL etc and Software Languages Like C, C++, etc. Application Softwares like Adobe Software, Open-Office. A Civil Engineer has to work in diverse fields viz.

Basic Civil and Environmental Labortory

Testing of materials is a subject in materials science dealing with the ability of objects to withstand stresses without failure. The study of strength of materials often refers to various methods of calculating stresses in structural members, such as beams, columns and shafts.
The methods employed to predict the response of a structure under loading and its susceptibility to various failure modes may take into account various properties of the materials other than material yield strength and ultimate strength; for example, failure by buckling is dependent on material stiffness and thus Young’s Modulus. Lab consists of Universal Testing Machine, Compression Testing Machine, and Hardness Testing Apparatus.Lab consist of 20 PC’s, having Configuration : Desktop PC with intel core i3 processor processor 3.07 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Dual Boot Ubuntu 11.04.

Survey Laboratory

Surveying or land surveying is the technique, profession, and science of accurately determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional position of points and the distances and angles between them. These points are usually on the surface of the Earth, and they are often used to establish land maps and boundaries for ownership or governmental purposes.To accomplish their objective, surveyors use elements of mathematics (geometry and trigonometry), physics, engineering and law. Lab consist of Total station, Dumpy Level, Theodolite, GPS etc.

Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical engineering is the subject of civil engineering concerned with the engineering behavior of earth materials. Geotechnical engineering is important in civil engineering, but is also used by military, mining, petroleum, or any other engineering concerned with construction on or in the ground.
Geotechnical engineering uses principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics to investigate subsurface conditions and materials; determine the relevant physical/mechanical and chemical properties of these materials; evaluate stability of natural slopes and man-made soil deposits; assess risks posed by site conditions; design earthworks and structure foundations; and monitor site conditions, earthwork and foundation construction. Lab consist of Plate load test apparatus , Shear test apparatus , Soil testing kit etc..

Fluid Mechanics Laboratory

Fluid mechanics is the study of fluids and the forces on them. (Fluids include liquids, gases, and plasmas.) Fluid mechanics can be divided into fluid statics, the study of fluids at rest; fluid kinematics, the study of fluids in motion; and fluid dynamics, the study of the effect of forces on fluid motion.
It is a branch of continuum mechanics, a subject which models matter without using the information that it is made out of atoms, that is, it models matter from a macroscopic viewpoint rather than from a microscopic viewpoint. Lab consists of Bernoullis Theorem apparatus, Venturimeter, Orificemeter, Rotameter Calibration Setup , Reynold’s apparatus Calibration of Notches apparatus, Losses in Pipe Fittings setup etc.
